Obesity: Another higher risk for at-risk children

First lady Michelle Obama's Let's Move campaign to fight childhood obesity celebrated its first anniversary last month. Her drive "to raise a healthier generation of kids" now has more than 500 partners, including cities, businesses and schools. Michelle Bachmann, as a former foster parent, is a total bought and sold System Suck who uses her former status as a foster parent as proof and justification of her holier than thou existence and her morally righteous path that should be forced upon the rest of us.

I'm sorry, but I'm one who lost all faith in government a long time ago. That was based on personal experience with agencies like the child protective industry, and people like this being representative of the powers that be, honestly helps to reinforce that lack of faith.

Honestly, what do you think the teabaggers are gonna do when after they cut welfare to shit and their taxes go up because the foster care rates double because of the sudden increase in hungry and homeless kids. Remember, in the minds of people like this, Poverty = Neglect.

What do you think their suggestions will be?

Caseworkers Dispirited Over Charges in Girl’s Death

Note: Awwwww.

Never before, however, had any caseworker been accused of contributing to a death. But that is what happened this week, when the Brooklyn district attorney announced the indictment of a former caseworker and a supervisor on charges of criminally negligent homicide in the death of a 4-year-old girl.

On Thursday, agency workers, officials and even some child welfare advocates expressed fears that the charges would make a tough job — attracting smart, qualified people — even tougher, and might even make things worse for vulnerable families too.

“I’m very unhappy about it; I feel it’s unfair,” said Susan Greene, a newly hired caseworker who works in Brooklyn. “We do a lot of good work. It is a lot of work.” Potential workers, she said worriedly, “might not want to work for this agency.”

Note: I repeat. Awwwwww.

Australia Police claims Facebook hinders child abuse probe

I have seen many causes and campaigns to eliminate sex offenders from Facebook, so that these people will not be able to use such a venue to target children.

According to the Australian police, removal of such profiles equals the destruction and elimination of valuable evidence that could be used to help convict such people of their crimes.

I guess it's one of those dammed if you do and dammed if you don't situations. Huh. On the one hand you keep kids safe by keeping predators off of the most widely used social networking site in the world. On the other hand, by kicking them off and eliminating their profiles you destroy valuable evidence that could ultimately be used to get them off the streets.

Fluffing The Numbers - One Pinwheel For Every Call To The Hotline

I am going to harp on this throughout Child Abuse Propaganda Month. The pinwheels are used as a symbolic representation of the number of child abuse cases in a small area such as a county, a state, what have you. But as the woman states, one pinwheel is being placed for every call to the child abuse hotline.

Now, lets look at some data...
Child Maltreatment 2008: Summary of Key Findings from the US Department of Health and Human Services website.

How many children were reported and received an investigation or assessment for abuse and neglect?

During FFY 2008, an estimated 3.3 million referrals involving the alleged maltreatment of approximately 6 million children were made to CPS agencies. An estimated 3.7 million children received an investigation or assessment.

* Approximately 63 percent (62.5 percent) of referrals were screened in for investigation or assessment by CPS agencies.

* Approximately 24 percent (23.7 percent) of the investigations or assessments found at least one child to be a victim of abuse or neglect, with the following report dispositions: 22.3 percent substantiated, 0.9 percent indicated, and 0.5 percent alternative response victim.1

* More than 76 percent (76.3 percent) of the investigations or assessments determined that the child was not a victim of maltreatment, with the following dispositions: 64.7 percent unsubstantiated, 7.7 percent alternative response nonvictim2, 1.7 percent "other," 1.9 percent closed with no finding, 0.1 percent intentionally false, and 0.1 percent unknown or missing.
So if you do the math, you will see that 3000 calls to the hotline does not equal 3000 cases of child abuse, especially when you consider that nationwide only 24% of the cases investigated were founded, and 37% of those calls were screened out without as much being investigated.

Back in August, 2008 I was invited to speak in DC by the organizers of United Civil Rights Council of America and for unknown circumstances and somehow was not being given the opportunity to speak as promised; I decided to take it as a loss even though we had just traveled 1,500 miles. About three months later in 2008 the event holder and organization asked me to bring in music to liven things up for 2009. During our campaign to reach out for Music Artists to support the cause for free, we also ran into several orgs that knew nothing of Family Preservation Events in DC. Not only had we lined up Musicians but managed 50% of new speakers and 50% orgs from their 2008 Event. All of a sudden the 2008 event holder drops all communications with me/us/our direct team, one month prior to the event. While documenting the process we found out that no one had applied for permits by Capitol Police; Block Hotel Rooms and Merchandising Rooms were NOT booked by The Hyatt Hotel on New Jersey Ave as promised and there was no funding. This forced me to gain permits due to the large amount of others attending and expensive equipment on grounds; It is the law. I had to sell my motorcycle to come up with the funding. We decided that TK and JP Music Fest ( Now the primary event, permit and financial holder for 3 years ) needed to expand it's name to the addition of We The People Fest in 2009 and then We The People Family Preservation Fest in 2010. April - The Child Abuse Propaganda Month Falacy

April is National Child Abuse Prevention Month, otherwise referred to as Child Abuse Propaganda Month on Legally Kidnapped. Here we have one of those pinwheels for prevention articles that I need to rip on.

Pinwheels aim to elevate awareness of child abuse

Although this is one of those bullshit system suck articles, that seeks to inflate the appearance of the severity of the problem of child abuse and neglect, I need to point out an inaccuracy.

The third and 4th paragraphs in this article give us some facts.
Sandy Brookshire, chairperson of the Dare County Child Abuse Task Force (CATF), reports that abuse against children is on the rise. There were 46 more reports in 2010 than in 2009 and 161 more children were involved in abuse and neglect cases.

“In Dare County, there were 87 investigations for serious neglect and abuse involving 199 children,” Brookshire said. “There were 220 assessments for neglect involving 391 children.”

I will clarify the facts.

A. 46 more reports in 2010 than in 2009, involving 161 more children.

B. 87 investigations for neglect involving 199 children.

C. There were 220 assessments for neglect involving 391 children.

Lets examine these numbers a little more closely.

A. tells us that there were 46 more reports of child abuse or neglect in 2010 then there was in 2009. That typically means calls to the hotline. 161 more children were involved. Okay.

B. tells us that there were 87 investigations for serious neglect. Keyword being investigations.

C. tells us that there were 220 assessments for neglect involving 391 children. Keyword being assessments.

My question is this. How many of these cases were substantiated? Why don't they give us that number?

Because it wouldn't appear to be as major of a problem if they did that. It would show how often they investigate innocent parents. It would prove how much time and energy they waste on those who have done nothing wrong.

I'm not saying that there is no abuse or neglect out there. And although these numbers may very well be completely accurate, I'm just saying that they use the wrong set of numbers to make their case so that the problem appears to be worse than it actually is.

BTW, if you pay close enough attention, you will see this little trick played out all through Child Abuse Propaganda Month.
